One Unforgettable Day Through Heart of Desert!

October 26, 2025

Goal 1: Reunite with cousin and Family from Canada

Goal 2: End day at comedian show in Salt Lake City

Goal 3: Show family new property

Goal 4: Hide a couple treasures with Family

This past Sunday was one for the books. We were up before the sun—out the door in Weston by 5:30 a.m.—coffee in hand and excitement in the air. By 7:30, we’d scooped up my cousin Lacoste, her husband Jeff, and their son Zane in Salt Lake City and hit the road heading south toward our favorite place—Hanksville.

The drive was filled with stories, music, and laughter, and before long those familiar red rock formations began to rise against the horizon. Once there, we set up a quick picnic and decided to make the most of the desert daylight. A spontaneous detour in the Duramax led us down one of those rough, rugged dirt roads that seem to go nowhere and everywhere all at once—complete with a splashy river crossing.

We wanted to show them what we enjoy doing here so we took them to a sandstone alcove covered in ancient art—petroglyphs, pictographs, and rock slabs ground smooth from centuries of use, like metates frozen in time. Standing there, it’s hard not to feel connected to the hands and hearts that came before us, shaping stories into stone under the same desert sun.

As quickly as the day began, it was time to head back north. We loaded up, dusted off, and made it back to Salt Lake just in time for the Adam Sandler and Friends comedy show. The lineup was full of laughs—David Spade, Kevin James, and a comedian named Kym Whitley, who had everyone rolling. The energy was electric and the timing perfect.

After the show, our Lyft took us all back to their hotel—where our truck was parked—and after hugs, goodbyes, and a few quick last smiles in the parking lot, we climbed in and began the long drive home. We pulled into the driveway at 1 a.m.—tired, dusty, and full of gratitude.

Hanksville never disappoints. It’s the place that keeps calling us back—the red cliffs, the quiet wind, the hidden stories. And as Finders Keepers Adventure Seekers, we’re reminded that the best treasures aren’t always the ones you can hold in your hands—they’re the memories made with family, laughter echoing between the canyon walls, and the long roads that lead us home.
