This was a multi-purpose trip.
Goal 1: Collect temper (Olivine)
Goal 2: Fire pots
Goal 3: Hide pots
Goal 4: Relax and enjoy time in desert / mountains of the Arizona Strip
You ask: Where is the STRIP?
This is the area between Utah border and the Grand Canyon from Nevada then East. We have struggled with finding a temper that didn’t spall and we had heard that the ancients had used Olivine. We had acquired some information of where to find olivine in this area. So, off we went to the “strip”. We got our pots made, dried and painted before we left. These two pots are made with a base clay that fires white and painted with Rocky Mountain Bee Plant, organic paint. When we arrived the first line of oreder was to collect wood from old dead junipers. After enough wood was collected we fired the pots on the first night. The next couple days we adventured to find the prize we had come for (Olivine). Picture of a piece of this is included below. On the last day of our trip we found locations to place the two pots. The handled, bird pot was made by Mapache and the bi-lobal was made by me, Lolli. We actually hid these pots about 2 miles from each other. Therefore, I am including one GPS location that will almost middle between both pots, within a mile radius. Happy hunting for our treasures. PLEASE post where, when and how you found the pot / pots with pictures!!
GPS: EDITED: BOTH POTS HAVE BEEN FOUND (removed GPS coordinates)
